The Visit Revisited Tour heading to Europe

MARCH 24, 2023. at 8 P.M., MVM DOME BUDAPEST

Just months after announcing her 27-city fall tour through parts of Canada and the United States, award-winning Canadian singer/songwriter Loreena McKennitt has just announced plans for a 10-country, 24-performance spring European tour.

McKennitt and four of her long-time musical companions will be taking The Visit Revisited Tour to Europe beginning March 6, 2024 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands and winding up in London, England on April 8, with performances in between in Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Hungary and Poland. Tickets go on sale Friday June 16 at 10 a.m. local time.

The tour commemorates the anniversary of her Juno Award-winning album, The Visit, which was released in Canada in 1991 and internationally in 1992 when she entered into a partnership with major international record company Warner Music Group. It was this album that propelled her onto the world stage, a place she has comfortably remained ever since.

“The last time I performed in Europe was in 2019 and so much has happened since then. It will be glorious to return to Europe next spring and reconnect with the many familiar faces we have missed during these turbulent times” said McKennitt.

As it’s been four years since her last tour through Europe, McKennitt has been receiving many queries from fans in Europe wondering when she’s coming back. It’s anticipated demand for second shows – maybe even third shows in some cities – could add to her performance schedule.

McKennitt will be accompanied by Caroline Lavelle on cello, Brian Hughes on guitar, Hugh Marsh on violin and Dudley Phillips on bass.

The first chapter of The Visit Revisited Tour was a 10-performance, eight-city tour in eastern Canada in September and October 2022. It followed McKennitt’s release in September 2021 of The Visit: The Definitive Edition which celebrated the 30th anniversary of her original recording of The Visit. The deluxe, limited-edition album featured an enhanced listening experience and included four CDs, audio Blu-ray and an illustrated booklet with relived memories and previously unpublished material.

This year’s fall leg of the tour kicks off Oct. 11, 2023 in Portland, Maine and winds up in Calgary, Alberta on Nov. 13. It will take her to parts of the American Northeast and Midwest and include shows in Boston, New York (where due to demand a second show has already been added), as well as Chicago and as far west as Milwaukee and Minneapolis. It’s been eight years since she last toured in the U.S. The fall tour wraps up in Canada’s prairie provinces and includes a stop in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where she has never before performed.

Ahead of the fall tour, McKennitt is also making rare appearances this summer at four Ontario folk festivals, representing a return to her earliest roots. She’ll be accompanied there by special guests The Bookends, a Stratford-based Celtic band.

Loreena McKennitt’s eclectic Celtic blend of pop, folk and world music has sold over 14 million albums worldwide. Her recordings have achieved Gold, Platinum and multi-Platinum status in 15 countries, on four continents. She has twice been nominated for a Grammy Award and has won two Juno Awards, as well as a Billboard International Achievement Award.

She has performed in some of the world’s most-respected and historic concert venues, from Carnegie Hall to the famous Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain and for dignitaries including the Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Majesty King Charles III, and other heads of state.

In addition to her musical career, McKennitt has been recognized for a number of noteworthy philanthropic initiatives, including:

· The Cook-Rees Memorial Fund for Water Search and Safety

· The Falstaff Family Centre

· Honorary Colonel of the Royal Canadian Air Force

In 2004, McKennitt was awarded the Order of Canada, and in 2013 was appointed Knight of the National Order of Arts and Letters of the Republic of France.
